Happy 2010 – New Year And New Decade Resolutions

Jan 01 · by Simon Leung

It’s 2010 – Happy New Year from Hong Kong and welcome to the beginning of a new decade!

As with every new year, most people are making New Year Resolutions for themselves, whether it is meant to improve their lives personally or professionally.

However, 2010 is different because not only is it a New Year, it is also a New Decade…

When it comes to making your resolutions this time around, you must think bigger picture in terms of what you want to achieve not just for this year, but for the next 10 years!

I know, I know… making goals for the next 10 years seems to be somewhat of a stretch…

This was exactly what I thought the last time I renewed my passport (In the United States, passports expire every 10 years).

I thought to myself, “Wow – I won’t need to renew my passport for another 10 years… That’s PLENTY of time!”

Guess what? I just finished renewing my passport again several weeks ago… :)

The point I’m trying to make is not just that I’m getting old and that time can fly right by you before you know it, but also that you need to set the appropriate goals for yourself and make sure you use this time to achieve what is important to you.

Back in 2000, I was a broke college student struggling to finish my Bachelor degree, eating ramen and soy sauce over rice with every meal, with dreams of finding success and traveling the world.

When I received my renewed passport in the mail, the first thing I did (after getting over how unsatisfied I was with my passport photo) was set a goal for myself to fill up every page of that passport before it was due to expire in 10 years.

For a college student who averaged maybe one trip to Hong Kong every year or two to visit family, this was a pretty tall order.

Before I knew it, a year has gone by, two years, five years, eight years, and I had barely made a dent on my passport, continuing to average maybe one or two International flights a year, filling up only a quarter or so of my passport pages.

When I realized my time was running out, I decided to kick my business into high gear and began expanding my company overseas.

Within the course of about a year, I managed to expand my business from just within the United States to Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and China.

I’ve also had the chance to take personal and business vacations to places like Mexico, Caribbeans, Nova Scotia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Macau and of course, right here in my hometown of Hong Kong.

Needless to say, these International trips (most places I visited multiple times) resulted in many additional stamps on my passport, and I actually filled up every single one of these pages an entire year before my passport was due to expire.

The moral of the story is that every year, we make New Year Resolutions for ourselves, generic ones like make more money, eat more healthy, quit smoking, work out more, lose weight and spend less money.

Many of our resolutions, if not most or all, are almost never achieved and even die away within a day or two after you have set them.

Well this year, since 2010 marks the beginning of a new decade, why not be a little different?

Why not set a goal for yourself that is higher than what you would normally set, and more specific than what you would normally declare?

How about something that is not “achieved” by doing once, like going to the gym or refraining from eating a greasy burger?

Push yourself to the point where you know what your own limits are, and then surpassing them because you have set a higher goal for yourself.

Success does not happen overnight – You must work hard at it every day and strive to reach the point in which you would consider it successful.

Yes, it may take you up to ten years to achieve it, whatever it may be – To max out your passport with travels, to build a seven or eight figure business from scratch, to attain financial freedom for your family, or whatever that goal might be.

And let me tell you, once you complete these goals and raise your arms in victory, there is no better feeling – especially if you found that you have done it in less than 10 years :)

Happy New Year and don’t just make 2010 your year – Make This Your Decade!

As my Cathay Pacific flight landed in SFO after my 18 hour journey from Singapore to San Francisco, I turned on my Blackberry to hundreds of new messages accrued from over the past several weeks while I was in Asia.

Quite a number of them were sent recently by my buddy, Stu McLaren, who was pretty persistent in contacting me through emails, instant messaging, both the public and private streams on Twitter and even leaving me a comment on my blog :)

Poor Stu McLaren must’ve been freakin out, cuz he actually had me scheduled to kick off his annual Marketing Predictions Call, which is a virtual event Stu McLaren puts together every year to raise money for a charity called World Teacher Aid, an organization founded by his wife, Amy McLaren.

The reason I’ve agreed to volunteer my time with Stu McLaren is not just because Stu and Amy McLaren are my friends, and not just the mere fact that I’ll be training and giving online entrepreneurs 2009 insights that will help them learn more about Internet Marketing…

Even more importantly, I am taking this as an opportunity (especially in the spirits of the Holiday Season) to give back by helping out a worthy cause…

You see, Amy McLaren’s World Teacher Aid is a non-profit organization that focuses on bringing education to children by building schools and establishing feeding programs all around the world, as well as funding full-time salaries and supporting children in less fortunate countries like Uganda, Ghana, El Salvador and Kenya.

Every year, Stu McLaren holds an online fundraising event for his wife’s cause by interviewing the top Internet Marketers in the world, and this year promises to be the biggest one yet with four times as many volunteered marketing experts than last year!

I’m very honored to be a part of Stu McLaren’s Marketing Predictions Call this year, and will be sharing my Google predictions during my scheduled interview TONIGHT…

And over the next several weeks, expect a ton more amazing and pitch-free information and marketing insights for the upcoming year from literally some of the most talented and top notch Internet Marketing experts in the world!

Hello from the Orchard Parade Hotel in Singapore, where I am making my virtual presentation for Ross Goldberg’s Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar!

masters seminar

The Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar is Ross Goldberg’s third Masters Seminar this year (Masters Seminar Las Vegas and Masters Seminar Chicago), and I’m extremely honored to have been a part of all three of them.

My Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar presentation was scheduled for 2pm EST, which was 3am for me in Singapore…

And because Ross Goldberg made the mistake of allowing me to speak for as long as I wanted to, I continued talking for over two hours until I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore at 5:30am!

But it didn’t matter, because the environment was fun and interactive, and I enjoyed presenting in the virtually interactive seminar chatroom in front of fabulous attendees from all around the world.

Even though there is tremendous value in live events, the Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar could not have come at a better time since I am still in Singapore, and would not have been able to make it if it’d been a physical event.

But with over 600 registered attendees, it’s safe to bet that the virtual seminar has the potential to reach a lot more people from all over the world since they have such easy access to all the great content and networking without having to leave the comfort of their own homes!

And why would they want to, when for seven whole days, they could learn from Mark Joyner, Yanik Silver, Joel Comm, Matt Bacak, Ray Edwards, Kevin Nations, Stuart Tan, Lee & Robin Collins, Howie Schwartz, Michel & Silvie Fortin, Patric Chan, Warren Whitlock, Colin McDougall, Deb Micek, Alan Bechtold, Erik Stafford, Bob the Teacher, Dan Nickerson, David Wilkinson, Brad Semp, Kevin Riley, Carrie Wilkerson, Lynn Terry, David Preston, Mari Smith and Micheal Savoie!

Is that a crazy list or what?

If you haven’t already registered for this Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar, it’s not too late…

The Virtual Masters Internet Marketing Seminar does not conclude until Sunday, December 14th, and you will still have the chance to view ALL of the recorded presentations until January 1st, 2009.

I highly recommend that you take full advantage of this awesome opportunity to not only save money on travels and accommodation of a live seminar, but also get complete access to some of the brightest minds in Internet Marketing…

Ambar Hamid’s Wealth Thing Seminar In London, UK

Nov 23 · by Simon Leung

Hello from the Cumberland Hotel at Ambar Hamid’s Wealth Thing Seminar in London, UK!

wealth thing seminar

Actually, if you look closely at the photograph above, you’d actually notice that I am not physically in the seminar room.

That’s because on a recent trip to Thailand, I was involved in a minor motorcycle accident, which prevented me from being able to leave for London in time for the Wealth Thing Seminar.

Fortunately, Ambar Hamid was gracious enough to allow me to present my Wealth Thing Seminar training virtually, so I was actually able to conduct my presentation from the comfort of my room at the Elizabeth Hotel in Singapore.

simon leung

As you can see from the photo, the right side of my face is bandaged as I prepare to make my virtual presentation for the Wealth Thing Seminar audience at 2am Singapore time.

Even though I was not physically at the Wealth Thing Seminar, the attendees still had the opportunity to meet other speakers like Donna Fox, Robert Puddy, Greg Secker, Andrew Barnett and Tamkin Riaz.

I was very disappointed to have missed my trip to London this time around, but very much look forward to additional opportunities to travel there sometime in the near future.

The SMART Seminar 2008 In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Nov 10 · by Simon Leung

Hello from Rm 2203 of the Boulevard Hotel at first ever The SMART Seminar in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

boulevard malaysia

The SMART Seminar 2008 in Malaysia is one of two back-to-back weekend events hosted by Stuart Tan and myself, and we’re scheduled to continue with The SMART Seminar in Singapore next week.

This past weekend in Malaysia, we kicked off The SMART Seminar with some of the most talented speakers from all around the world that I’m proud to call my friends, partners and mentors…

the smart seminar speakers

The SMART Seminar Malaysia Speakers

In front of a packed room full of information-hungry attendees, we were blown away by the valuable information presented by Anik Singal, Ewen Chia, Lee Collins, Robin Collins, Donna Fox, Mike Morgan, Mark Widawer and Robert Puddy.

I’ve seen every one of these powerful speakers present before, but never have I witnessed such a tremendous flood of solid content that was shared among them than at The SMART Seminar.

As the event organizers, Stuart Tan and myself were extremely grateful to the speakers for their willingness to share not only in their individual presentations, but also the group round tables in between breaks…

The SMART Seminar Malaysia Breakout Sessions

Both the speakers and the attendees agree that these breakout sessions added a ton of addition value to The SMART Seminar experience because not only did it help the speakers build trust and relationship with the attendees, but it also gave the attendees the chance to ask each speaker questions personally in small group settings.

And even though we were truly in the presence of greatness, Stuart Tan and I were also proud to have in attendance some of Malaysia’s well-known Internet Marketers as well, including Patric Chan, Gobala Krishnan and Vince Tan.

As always, no Internet Marketing conference is complete without a speaker VIP dinner, and of course, The SMART Seminar is no exception.

On our final evening in Malaysia, the awesome folks at MindValley sponsored our evening of fun at the Kuala Lumpur Marriott, where we were joined by our good friend, the legendary Mark Joyner, who was also in town for another event.

The SMART Seminar Malaysia VIP Dinner

Overall, Stuart Tan and I believe that The SMART Seminar Malaysia this past weekend has exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait to continue The SMART Seminar next weekend in Singapore.

However, we did have some last minute cancellations from a few of our speakers, who were unfortunately not able to make it to Asia for The SMART Seminar this time around.

Robert Puddy was a last minute replacement for Paulie Sabol, but we weren’t able to replace Ben Mack or Ross Goldberg at such short notice.

Luckily, we do have replacements for them next week in Singapore, so you’ll have to stay tuned to see who our new mystery speakers are going to be :)

Special thanks to the indispensable rockstars of my team, Andy Huang and Cassey Lim, for helping us make The SMART Seminar 2008 a success!

I look forward to updating you about The SMART Seminar 2008 in Singapore shortly, but in the meantime, here are several more fun memories of The SMART Seminar 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:

Internet Marketing Hong Kong

Oct 07 · by Simon Leung

Almost two years after I registered the domain name InternetMarketingHongKong.com on Christmas Day in 2006, Hong Kong’s version of the Internet Marketing Power Blog is finally live!

internet marketing hong kong

InternetMarketingHongKong.com Homepage

Even though I had big plans for InternetMarketingHongKong.com at the time I registered it, my hectic project load and heavy traveling schedule kept me away from focusing on these plans.

During the time since registering InternetMarketingHongKong.com, I spent almost every weekend on the road speaking at an Internet Marketing seminar somewhere around the country, and even the world.

This was essential in building my business as well as my brand, which also included working on books, digital products, home study courses, as well as live and recorded interviews (teleseminars) and video presentations (webinars).

That’s why for close to two years, InternetMarketingHongKong.com had actually been redirected to this very website, the Internet Marketing Power Blog.

However, having spent close to 50% of my schedule in Asia this year, I figured that 2008 would be a good time to launch InternetMarketingHongKong.com and to prepare for some really cool things.

As a matter of fact, Iโ€™m in Hong Kong right now, and have been traveling through Asia for close to six weeks, conducting business in Macau and various cities in China, including ShenZhen, GuangZhou, DongGuan, and ZhuHai.

My first official project with Internet Marketing Hong Kong is actually a partnership with Internet Marketing Singapore, working closely with my good friend Stuart Tan on an Internet Marketing Conference called The SMART Seminar.

The SMART Seminar is scheduled for this November in Malaysia and Singapore, and Stuart Tan and I have confirmed some of the most talented Internet Marketers from all over the world to The SMART Seminar stage.

With expert speakers like Anik Singal, Ben Mack, Donna Fox, Mike Morgan, Mark Widawer, Ross Goldberg, Lee Collins, Robin Collins and Singapore’s own Ewen Chia, The SMART Seminar is, without a doubt, going to be Asia’s most explosive conference ever.

Because this is InternetMarketingHongKong.com’s first seminar, I want to give a small number of people the opportunity to win two free tickets to The SMART Seminar.

And as a loyal reader of my Internet Marketing Power Blog, I want YOU to win these tickets…

If you’d like to win a pair of free tickets to The SMART Seminar 2008 in Malaysia or Singapore, please leave a comment on this post and tell us why you want to attend.

Make sure to leave your full name, as well as a way for us to contact you if you win…

TheSMARTSeminar.com Preview Video Call

Sep 25 · by Simon Leung

Hong Kong has been in the middle of a severe storm during the past few days that has literally caused the whole city to shut down…

I’m talking about grounded public transportation, flights and ships as a result of heavy rains, thunder and winds at up to 200km caused by a T8 typhoon storm (AKA tropical cyclone).

But as we say in Internet Marketing, “the seminar must go on,” which is why Stuart Tan and I proceeded with our scheduled preview video call for The SMART Seminar (scheduled for this November in Singapore and Malaysia), he in Singapore and I in Hong Kong.

That’s right, after a two year friendship between Stuart Tan and myself that started with a private MySpace message sent to me from Stuart Tan in late 2006…

InternetMarketingSingapore.com and InternetMarketingHongKong.com (or as some people call it, “the best of both worlds” haha), finally launch their first highly anticipated collaboration by putting together Asia’s most explosive conference ever, The SMART Seminar.

The entire video interview is almost 55 minutes in length and has a lot of really important and relevant information about the value of attending live events, as well as a breakdown of all the benefits you will get from joining us at The SMART Seminar.

In addition, we also unveil our faculty line-up for The SMART Seminar, which also happens to be our very own friends, colleagues and even mentors that we hand-picked to teach at the event this November.

Our confirmed team of presenters for our first annual The SMART Seminar includes Anik Singal, Donna Fox, Paulie Sabol, Ben Mack, Mark Widawer, Lee Collins, Robin Collins, Mike Morgan and hometown favorite, Ewen Chia.

Please take the time to review the video and grab some valuable training information, then hop on over to TheSMARTSeminar.com to further discover how you can benefit from this event.

On behalf of Stuart Tan and myself, we look forward to seeing you at The SMART Seminar either on November 7th – 9th in Malaysia, or November 14th – 16th in Singapore.

Pat O’Bryan’s UnSeminar 5 In San Antonio, Texas

Jul 27 · by Simon Leung

Hello from Room 1170 of the Drury Plaza Hotel at Pat O’Bryan’s UnSeminar 5 in San Antonio, Texas!

simon leung

It’s great to return to San Antonio since my very first Internet Marketing seminar in May of 2006, as well as my first speaking engagement three months later in August, also happened right here in San Antonio.

But this time, it was a much more exciting experience…

In front of a jam packed room, I had the honor of sharing the stage with Dr. Joe Vitale, Craig Perrine, Bill Hibbler, Ben Mack, Donna Fox, Eric Farewell, Scott Lewis, Tony Laidig, Erica Douglass, and of course, Pat O’Bryan himself.

As with most seminars, the live networking at UnSeminar 5 was amazing, especially with the killer line-up of speakers and motivated attendees.

However, you know that time has definitely changed when the power of Web 2.0 not only brought on an additional 150 viewers from all around the world through live streaming…

But Twitter (one of the most popular Web 2.0 social marketing tools available today for networking) was also responsible for selling 1/3 of the tickets to the event, as well as booking several of the speakers!

Plus, throughout the weekend, we continued to network both online and offline, getting more and more people to sign up for Web 2.0 profiles like Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and more.

UnSeminar 5 was probably one of the most interactive Internet Marketing conferences I’ve been a part of that encouraged so many people to take action, whether or not they were live at the actual event.

I personally had a lot of fun not only at the conference itself, but the most invaluable experiences of all was the opportunity to hang out with speakers and attendees alike for lunch, dinner and throughout the evenings at the Riverwalk, Alamo and some of the more happening downtown areas.

Now, because my camera is broken (boo) and I haven’t gotten a replacement yet, I’m now at the mercy of my friends who did take photos to send them to me.

But while we wait for them, here are a few TwitPics (photo service for Twitter) that my friends and I took on our phones and posted online throughout the weekend…

Remember The Alamo, Y’all! :)

Special thanks to my friends for making this a weekend to remember: Donna Fox, Eric Farewell, Ben Mack, James Wedmore, Heather Duease, Marlon Sanders, Erica Douglass, Pat O’Bryan, Scott Lewis, Joe Vitale, Craig Perrine, Bill Hibbler and Tony Laidig.

I’m sure I’ll be seeing you guys around, especially if you’re interested in attending some of my future events in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

But if you don’t want to wait that long or travel that far (depending on where you’re located), you can catch me at my final U.S. workshop this year on August 8th and 9th in Long Island, NY, when Howie Schwartz, Ross Goldberg and I host the Three Sides Of Traffic Workshop.
